bioLytical Laboratories to Showcase World’s Fastest Diagnostic HIV Test to First Nations Community Healthcare Providers

Richmond, B.C. – Feb. 14, 2012. Canadian life sciences firm bioLytical Laboratories is pleased to announce its participation in Health Canada’s First Nations & Inuit Health (FNIH) CDC Workshop taking place February 14-16, 2012 in Vancouver, BC.

The Workshop, taking place at the Pan Pacific Hotel is entitled: Updates and Outbreaks and will be attended by some 100 Community Health Nurses working in First Nations communities throughout British Columbia, many of whom will learn about the INSTI HIV Rapid Test Kit for the first time.

The ease of use and speed to result of the INSTI platform make it an ideal healthcare tool for remote communities here in British Columbia and around the world, says Rick Galli, bioLytical Chief Technical Officer.

We recognize the important role nurses play, often being the main point of contact with the health care system in many of BCs remote areas, says Colin MacGillivray, bioLytical Chief Operating Officer and CFO. Were committed to supporting nurses and others working to meet the health care needs of First Nations and Inuit communities.

To date, INSTI is the only rapid in vitro qualitative test approved in Canada for the detection of antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2 in human whole blood, finger-stick blood, serum or plasma specimens. By utilizing innovative flow-through technology, INSTI is able to generate accurate results in as little as 60 seconds. INSTIs speed and ease-of-use allows more efficient and effective linkage to care and early treatment, from hospital emergency rooms to public health clinics.

The simplicity of INSTIs procedure, which entirely removes the need for counting drops, measuring, or timing, and eliminates the need for refrigeration has helped to broaden adoption of HIV testing. Increased continuity of pre- and post-test counselling has also significantly improved patient prevention and treatment education and their overall clinical experiences since administering the test and obtaining results can be completed so quickly.
